Members Only and X-Charge: A
PA-DSS Payment Solution

The major credit card brands are demanding
merchant account holders get in line with their
evolving PCI data security standard.
One way
to ease your path to compliance is to use a
payment solution that's already been deemed
secure by the PCI. That's why Members Only
now provides CAMCommerce X-Charge at the heart
of its payment strategy.
Members Only with xCharge does more than
let you scan, authorize, and settle securely.
It also provides a mechanism allowing you to
retain access to credit card numbers without
storing them on your own servers.
If you've studied the PCI requirements,
you know that storing card numbers means you
need to observe the most strenuous of the
standards - to protect stored Account Number
data. Compliance becomes much less of an ordeal
if you never store this information on servers
under your control, or in a way accessible to
your staff. But if you give up access to stored
numbers, repeat credit card billings or even
routine chargebacks become impossible. Here's
where X-Charge can really help.
The
X-Charge Archive Vault stores your
cardholder data offsite, on X-Charge servers,
minimizing your exposure. Instead of storing
the account number, you store a "token"
X-Charge returns to you. This alias allows you
to recharge or credit back to that account
number, without ever pulling the full number
back onto your network. Does this meet the PCI
standard for payment applications? Indeed it
does; X-Charge is listed on the PCI Security
website as a PA-DSS compliant
application.
Of course, there is more to
compliance than selecting the right
software. The PCI standard manages to
address the entire security of your network,
from the open ports on your routers to the way
you manage your passwords. Users have been
turning to us for help in meeting these new
requirements. So we've just returned from a
two-day seminar given by PCI in Boston so we
can help the associations and non-profits we
work with get in line with these new rules.
Feel free to give us a call if you'd like to
consult further on what the payment brands are
going to be expecting from
you.

The
cloud
has been used as a symbol for public
Wide Area Networks for as long as
engineers have been drawing network diagrams.
But suddenly, there's a lot of
talk about something called Cloud Computing.
Major vendors are touting their
"cloud" offerings, while other industry
notables are raving against the whole
cloud thing. (Take a look at Oracle founder
Larry Ellison's monologue ridiculing
the entire Cloud notion, for example). So what
is the story here?
Is talk of the Cloud just the latest
marketing
buzzword to help push internet apps, or is
there really a new computing paradigm
out there you'd better learn about? more...
